The primary reason I chose a steel fishing leader is because they are designed to have a high tensile strength. Sure, it's likely overkill for a tiny camera, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

The ones I picked are 18'/45.72cm long and have a rating of 20 lbs/9.08kg. (I erroneously said they were 20' above.) These ones came with little clips on them that work somewhat similarly to a safety pin. It came with 6 leaders in the package, with one clip per end, so I took the clips off of half and doubled them up so each end now has a clip. Now, if you look on any of the doors, you'll notice it has a metal bar across the bottom that clicks into the main part of the housing. (like the nylon ones that GoPro sells) or a metal fishing leader.

It lines up exactly with the mount point of the housing. Using this method, you can still attach any GoPro mount/accessory without the leader clip getting in the way. If I'm using my GoPro on/in/near the water, I also have another floating camera strap tether that I attach as well as the fishing leader.
